EDITING AND LEADERSHIP
Last year was my first year as a team leader. I made mistakes along the way and I learned a lot through the deadlines and my staffers’ support. I grew a lot and I wanted to improve more in the future as an editor. This year I am the Public Relations editor. Non-coverage is all new to me, but with the help of my staffers and peers, I am finding my groove and finding my passions in my role.
TEAM LEADER
Last year I got to do a lot of editing since I edit the rough drafts of my staffers. In all honestly, it was difficult at first, I was struggling with having an organization system of when to edit and I wanted to teach them how to interview, how to write a caption, etc. As time continued and the deadlines passed I began to figure it out day by day, and with the patience of my staffers and their willingness to learn, I was about to grow more as a team leader, and become the editor that they deserved. I started making lists of what to do and I am constantly communicating with them, and most importantly I applaud them for the hard work they’ve accomplished.

PUBLIC RELATIONS EDITOR
This is my first year working in non-coverage on the yearbook. Even though it was difficult for me at first, being used to solemnly doing coverage and photography, I got the hang of it with the help of my staffers and the people around me. Through planning parties and celebrations, organizing all the birthday days, creating commercials, etc, I have loved this job so far. I usually divide the workload to what fits best for each staffer and where their strengths lie, as well as what they’re more interested in. I am very grateful for my amazing staffers, they make all the hard work worth it.
EDITING
Over the course of the year, I have developed a system for myself when it comes to editing. I have learned to edit my staffer’s coverage as soon as they ask me to edit it, and if I run out of time I add it to a list and I’ll do it as soon as possible. I also would explain to them individually the edits I made on their coverage in class. Even though I’ve come across some obstacles this year, I wouldn’t be the editor I am now without my team. Getting to watch my staffers grow as people and writers, has truly been the most self-rewarding thing.
EVENT PLANNING/
COORDINATING
This year we have planned many of the staff's birthdays, giving each person a goodie bag filled with candies and goods and a card with signatures from the entire staff. For each holiday such as Halloween and the Winter holidays, we have decorated the room to bring joy and excitement to our staff. On Halloween, we had a class period to celebrate the staff's achievements with a PowerPoint acknowledging students and their work, as well as having fun staff bonding games such as a painting pumpkin competition. More commonly we’ve had minute-to-win games throughout the year as a way for the staff to bond!
